Featured Story: City Gospel Mission's Statement on Panhandling

Discourage PanhandlingCity Gospel Mission discourages panhandling by the men and women we serve. As a part of our one-to-one, relationship-focused programs and services, our staff and volunteers regularly educate those in need about breaking the cycle of self-destructive behavior and habits, such as panhandling, by equipping hurting men and women with the spiritual, emotional and physical skills and resources to achieve life transformation.

How should you respond to panhandlers?

  1. If you are approached by a panhandler do not give cash.
  2. Respectfully say no to their requests. Remember that they’re people just like you. Treat them with the courtesy and respect we all want and deserve.
  3. Be informed. If panhandlers ask for change to get something to eat, tell them when the next free meal is being served at City Gospel Mission. Encourage them to visit City Gospel Mission for help.
  4. We believe that the best way to help homeless men and women in our community is to support organizations that assist people on their journey out of homelessness. Learn more about how you can help the homeless through City Gospel Mission.
